Google Experimental Search Engine: Searchmash
October 8, 2006 · Leave a Comment
Google just unveiled an experimental search engine called Searchmash that holds innovative features that could make it soon on Google:
> There is no more search button – you just have to enter a keyword and hit enter.
> The ability to modify the result order using drag and drop. Interesting feature if you want to increase your ranking and help Google take into accounts your preferences. This is what we call Web 2.0 philosophy, since the search engine algorythm gives you a ranking, and your user feedback allows to refine the results!
> Last, you can see on the right hand side images, results coming from Google image, but what about sponsored links!

August 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment
Seattle startup Farecast has taken their airfare prediction technology nation wide on Monday July 21st. Flights departing from 55 US cities are now available for price history, predictions and buy/wait recommendations. The site also offers RSS feeds for automatically tracking fares and predictions over time.
I’ve written about Farecast when the beta site first opened.
I am looking forwad to an engine like this to work in Europe…

On this site, Ford started to publicly criticize their company like they never done!
The first video is about “Change or Die” and included in this video is comments around competitors.
Consumers are invited to post comments on the site and from what I’ve read, not all comments are positive, but this is what its all about – getting the real pace and thinking of consumers…

Next Generation Travel Pricing Prediction Tool
June 28, 2006 · Leave a Comment
Farecast predict where fares are going and show where they’ve been. Here’s how it works:
Fare Prediction
Each prediction is unique for your specific dates and cities and includes the following elements:
1. Arrow – indicates whether the lowest fare is rising, dropping, or staying the same.
2. Dollar amount – expected price movement (when possible).
3. Confidence level – our measure of certainty.
4. Buying Tip – recommendation based on the data.
Fare History
The patent pending Fare History shows what the lowest fare was for your trip each day, up to 90 days ago. We monitor price changes multiple times a day and store more than 50 billion observations (and counting). There is a significant investment in data, hardware, and storage costs to provide users with real prices based on availability.
